His Name Was John-Pat Cunningham

He was just a child,an innocent child. He didn't even know what a gun was. On June 5th 1974, John Pat Cunningham, an innocent and vulnerable catholic man, was shot and killed by soldiers including the man nown as Dennis Hutchings. In the face of years of delay, failure to acknowledge the harm caused and a mountain of disinformation and outright lies from the Britisih Media and MPs, the one constant has been the dignififed and brave response of the family.

The former soldier Dennis Hutchings charged with the ttempted murder of John-Pat was elevated to hero stattus by elements of the media. It seemed at times as if the victim was to blame for his own violent death.The contrast between the family memebrs who, without fanfare, atttened the trial- and the union flag-waving mob outside the court each day- was striking.
